La Broquerie Bridge of Pioneers
Owner:RM of La Broquerie
Location:La Broquerie, Manitoba
Product Utilized: Bridge in a Box®
The Challenge
The RM of La Broquerie was looking for a unique bridge crossing for the Seine River just Northeast of the La Vérendyre Golf Course. The goal was to not only expand the yet-to-be-established trail network but to also attract visitors to the area. The Municipality hoped to memorialize the community’s history while investing in its future across Manitoba.
The Solution
Each of WGI Westman Group’s divisions of Armtec, Behlen, Westman Steel, Meridian and Artspan contributed to this one-of-a-kind covered bridge project. Armtec’s Bridge-in-a-Box prefabricated modular steel bridge system was selected for its ease of installation and ability to withstand the additional load of the building superstructure. Behlen designed and manufactured the building, protecting pedestrians from the elements. Westman Steel supplied the steel roof. They say ‘teamwork makes the dreamwork’. The final structure commemorates 138 pioneers of La Broquerie with their names engraved prominently along the interior. The colours chosen for the crossing pay tribute to the local dairy barns that are so prevalent in the region. The bridge abutments, bridge hoist and approach trails/landscaping were provided by the Municipality.
