Location: Saint-Félicien, QC
Product Utilized:
BOSS Poly-tite® HDPE Pipe
The Challenge
Commercial greenhouse operations use supplemental CO₂ to support crop production, but this project presented an opportunity to source that CO₂ differently. Rather than relying solely on conventional sources, the project was designed to capture CO₂ produced at the neighbouring pulp mill and put it to productive use at Serres Toundra.
This required infrastructure capable of transporting the captured gas between the two facilities and distributing it within the greenhouse. The project represented the first commercial application of CO₂ Solutions’ capture technology at this scale, with the unit designed to capture up to 30 tonnes per day.
The Solution
Armtec’s BOSS Poly-Tite® HDPE pipe was selected to transport the captured CO₂ from the Resolute pulp mill to Serres Toundra. The project also incorporated BOSS pipe within the greenhouse to create the internal CO₂ distribution header.
By connecting the carbon capture operation with the greenhouse, the system allows CO₂ that would otherwise be emitted by the mill to be captured and reused in greenhouse operations, helping reduce the mill’s carbon footprint while providing the greenhouse with a productive source of CO₂.
The project demonstrates the versatility of HDPE piping beyond traditional drainage applications and highlights how BOSS Poly-Tite® can be incorporated into specialized greenhouse infrastructure and custom distribution systems.
